Asking Questions
The chat bar at the bottom of the main window is where you talk to the AI. Type a question, press Enter, and Coeus sends it along with context from your notes.
What you can ask
Pretty much anything you'd ask a person who had read all your notes:
- "What did I write about the Johnson project?"
- "Summarize my meeting notes from this week"
- "Do I have any tasks due today?"
- "What books have I taken notes on?"
- "What were my main takeaways from the last retrospective?"
The AI searches your notes and answers from what it finds. If it quotes or references something from a note, it shows a source link so you can jump to the original.
Creating and editing notes
You can also ask the AI to write things for you:
- "Create a meeting note for my 1:1 with Sarah today"
- "Add a task: follow up with the client by Friday"
- "Write a project note for the new onboarding redesign"
When the AI creates or edits a note, the note shows up in your sidebar and is saved to disk.
Attaching files to a message
Click the paperclip icon in the chat bar to attach a file to your message. You can attach images, PDFs, and other documents. The AI can read them and answer questions about them.
For image attachments, you need a provider that supports vision (Claude, GPT-4o, etc.).
Sending a voice message
Click the mic icon to record a voice message. Coeus transcribes it and sends the transcript as your message.
Source references
After a response, you may see source links: these are the specific notes or blocks the AI pulled from. Click one to open that note.
Conversation history
Coeus keeps the conversation in context. You can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself.
When you click New Conversation in the sidebar footer, the history is cleared and the next message starts fresh.
Saving a conversation
After a response, you can click Save to note to save the conversation as a note. Good for when the AI helped you work through something you want to keep.
Choosing a provider
The provider selector in the chat bar lets you switch between the AI providers you've configured. Different providers have different strengths: see the providers overview for details.
