Maintenance Scan

The maintenance scan checks your notes for common issues. Run it from the sidebar footer (the wrench icon) or ask the AI "run a maintenance scan."

What it checks

Broken wiki-links: Links to notes that don't exist. Either the note was deleted or the title changed without the link being updated.

Unlinked sources: Notes of type "source" (imported web pages) that aren't linked to from any other note.

Orphan notes: Notes that nothing links to and that aren't linked to anything. These are islands in your note graph.

Stale synthesis notes: Notes that synthesize or summarize other notes, but where the source notes have been updated significantly since the synthesis was written.

Missing sources sections: Notes that reference information without having a "Sources" or "References" section.

Fixing issues

The maintenance dialog shows each issue with a description and a link to the affected note. Click the note link to open it.

Most issues are just FYI: a broken link might be intentional, an orphan note might be a draft. The scan is a prompt to review, not an error list.

For broken wiki-links, the most common fixes are:

  • Update the link to point to the current note title
  • Delete the link if the note no longer exists
  • Create the missing note

When to run it

I run it whenever my notes feel disorganized. It's also useful after a big import or after renaming a lot of notes.
